Success Stories - Case Study
Engineering Company - Leicester
A long established company, involved in the manufacture of machine tools to the foods industry, were using an old DOS based production system. Support for this application was taken over by a 3rd party business when the original software designer sold his company. Therefore support knowledge was minimal, and due to be discontinued.
We were contacted by the client asking us to design an updated version of the application, but to incorporate long overdue changes and bugfixes to the modules. Furthermore, the new application needed to be easier to operate, Windows based and allow for multi-user access.
Having looked at the current system in detail, we liased with the client to ascertain what new features were needed, and how they needed the new application to function. We were then able to design a totally new package for the purposes of job costing and production control. Having total management on the bespoke application, our client was able to design each screen, report and layout to their exact need.
Furthermore, we were able to convert the old application database to the new Windows based system. This meant the client had instant access to legacy data without the need to parallel run both old and new systems.
The new application gave significant benefits from day one;
Fast Speed access
Running on a new Windows platform meant processing speeds were dramatically improved.
Having being designed for a network, we enabled the system to be accessed by concurrent multiple users. This was a big productivity benefit.
Having looked after the clients PCs for many years, it was a natural progression to extend our cover to the new software. Total site knowledge means one call to one firm will get any problems fixed quickly.
The client was able to design the user interface themselves. With total control over exactly how the application looks and operates, them got a system to suit them perfectly.
Our bespoke application was quickly adopted, partially because it also allowed access to his existing data. Faster access speeds were achieved, but the main areas of advantage proved to be the ability to access the system from any networked PC around the building, and the piece of mind that the application was now hosted on reliable and modern server hardware.
Finally, the client knew his business critical application was now supported for many years into the future. This is arguably the biggest advantage of the entire project.
